So you are an SEO…Are you tired? I am!

Well, anyone in this line of business is quite clear that this type of work can be exhausting. I know there are other jobs that take a ton of physical and mental strength, but I don’t have experience with those jobs! 🙂

I think that this particular job is exhausting because there is a lot at stake. If I don’t pay attention and consistently monitor everything my clients are going to lose money. Additionally, I need to consistently keep up on the constant changes and I need to be innovative and try to help my clients continue to increase their sites’ web presence. I do this for multiple people and it can be fatiguing.

When you add this stress to…

  • Constant Number Crunching
  • Upset ITs and Web Designers
  • The Responsibilities of Home and Family
  • Juggling My Other Work
  • Kids Fighting
  • My Car Getting Keyed
  • This Blog
  • The Constant Reading…
  • and my dog peeing on the carpet in the middle of a conference call…

…you can see that life can become a bit stressful.  So what can we do? If you have any suggestions please share them and I will share mine.

 Think About Getting Glasses

I have to say that in the past year it has become as obvious as a bat to the face that if I don’t have my glasses on while I stare at this computer all day I will regret it.

I noticed about a year and half ago that my eyes actually hurt, they were watering and I was kind of getting dizzy looking at the screen. So, I went to the eye doctor and my eye sight had not gotten any worse, but my eyes were weak from the constant glare from the computer. So, I got glasses that protects my eyes from the computer screen and believe it or not I felt better, could work longer and was also less stressed…I think because I felt less tired. Sometimes, like today, I don’t want to take the time to go get my glasses and I regret it.

Do Not Forget To Eat or Do Not Just Say You Don’t Have Time

Not eating doesn’t do anything but make you tired and make you unhealthy. Most people feel jittery when their blood sugar drops and that makes stress even worse. I am sure that many people have just substituted a Coke/Dr. Pepper/Mountain Dew for food. I know I have. Guess what, there is a psychological reason why this is very bad. Most of us have grown up drinking caffeinated sodas and we no longer realize what it does to our bodies.

I have a M.A. specializing in mental health and during my very long 3 year program they explained to us that caffeine actually throws your body into the fight-or-flight response. This means that you are actually stressing your body out more by drinking the caffeine. If you are having a day where you are super stressed I would avoid caffeine that day.

Go Ahead and Pay More For the Products That Will Make Your Life Easier

I discussed my laptop and how much I love it. It cost me, a lot, but it was worth it because my work life is 1,000 times easier. I actually saved money on my Internet service, but I would have paid more than I was for service like this. What you want to do is basically support your work and yourself by investing in products that will make your life easier. It may cost in the beginning, but if you are less stressed with better equipment you will be able to work more and be more efficient.

Go To Bed

I really shouldn’t be saying get enough sleep because every client I have and anyone that works with me knows that I am up late a lot. Getting emails at 2-3:00am is not unusual. The truth is there are times when work adds up and I work when my 3 year old goes to bed, but I pay for it and my family pays for it because I am not in a great mood. We all need 8 hours of sleep a night- try to not get less than 6 hours.

Spend Some Time On Yourself

I went to Macy’s the other day and tried on so many clothes (they are having a huge sale) and I bought a bunch of summer dresses and I loved it. It was a great day and it made me feel better. You may want to go fishing, play golf, go to a movie or go eat Chinese food. Whatever it is -reward yourself! You need it and you deserve it.

Don’t Forget Your Family and Your Loved Ones

You need time with them to have the energy to work well and they need time with you. Don’t forget this one.

Try and Work Out- Exercise

Exercise is good for you and it will make you feel better. It will help your stress lessen.

Enjoy Your Day

Don’t forget that life is a great. If your client has all of their pages go into supplemental it isn’t the end of the world, right? 😉

Have any suggestions? There is my blurb for the day…
